Nigeria recorded a significant spike in its daily fatality toll on Tuesday as 31 persons were confirmed to have died of COVID-19 complications in the last 24 hours.

Lagos doctors threaten strike

Doctors, under the aegis of the medical guild, have issued a three-week strike notice to the Lagos government over non-availability of necessary resources to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The chairman of medical guild, Oluwajimi Sodipo Tuesday, Lagos, said the notice was issued based on challenges faced by health workers on providing care for patients in the light of the coronavirus pandemic.

COVID-19 drug not approved in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Tuesday, said Dexamethsaone has not been validated for use in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The drug, which scientists in the United Kingdom have hailed as a major breakthrough, is a widely used low-dose steroid which has been found to considerably reduce the risk of dying from COVID-19.

FG commends media in fight against Covid-19

The Federal Government has commended the Nigerian media for their support in the ongoing fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Making the call yesterday at a virtual meeting with the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, appealed for more media support for the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle the pandemic.
