Tinubu asks FG to pay Nigerians through BVN 

A national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has urged the Nigerian government to make cash payments to households through Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) as palliative. 

The former Lagos governor said the move would help cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on Nigerians.

Kano cases increase, Nigeria’s tally up 34 

Nigeria’s tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 407 Wednesday evening, as 34 new cases were announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. 

The health agency in a tweet said the new cases were reported in five states: Lagos, Kano, Katsina, Delta and Niger. 

The breakdown of the new cases showed that Lagos has 18 cases, followed closely by Kano with 12, Katsina 2, while Niger and Delta have one apiece.

‘Fake news needs to stop’ 

The Federal Government is deploying many strategies to contain fake news among which are campaigns to media houses and cooperation with Facebook and Google. Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed said on Wednesday 

Mohammed, who was featured on a Nigeria Television Authority programme, ‘Tuesday Live,’ said the government would not be distracted by fake news in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Frequent international flights raise concerns 

The frequency of international flight services in and out of Lagos and Abuja airports amid the lockdown has raised fresh safety concerns in the fight against coronavirus disease spread. 

The evacuation flights, according to stakeholders, may lead to increase in the number of new infections with more flights ferrying crew and passengers from COVID-19 endemic countries. Regulators have, however, dismissed the claim as untrue.

Doctors in Cross River cry out 

Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Cross River, Agam Ayuk says doctors under the state civil service are the least paid in Nigeria. 

According to NAN, he spoke in Calabar, Cross River capital, while addressing reporters on the COVID-19 response and the state of the health sector, on Wednesday.
