‘Seize opportunity this pandemic period’ and other #COVID-19 updates across Nigeria
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has urged young Nigerians to seize the opportunity of the COVID-19 pandemic to change the course of human history by proffering solutions to problems.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Laolu Akande Saturday, Osinbajo said, “No matter how you look at it, you are unique. The game changed in your generation, you are certainly a class of game changers. The point with any opportunity is that it must be seized if you are to benefit from it, which is why you must never take your place in history for granted. There is always a divine reason for it.”
Buhari asks Nigerians abroad to support COVID-19 economic recovery efforts
President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians in the diaspora to support the country’s post-COVID-19 economic recovery efforts.
Buhari made the appeal in a video message to commemorate the 2020 Diaspora Day themed “Leveraging Diaspora Resources for National Development in a COVID-19 Era”.
He also commended Nigerians abroad, estimated to be more than 17 million, for their remittances to the country.
The 14 airports where domestic private, charter flights do not need ministerial approval
Private and charter flights can now operate at the 14 airports that have been reopened without needing to get approval from the ministry of aviation.
This is according to a tweet by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Sunday.
“Glad to announce that the following airports are open for full domestic operations, hence ministerial approvals in and out of them is not required. This includes private and charter operations,” the tweet read.
The 14 airports that have reopened include Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos; Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa; Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri.
Others are Maiduguri Airport, Maiduguri; Victor Attah Airport, Uyo; Kaduna Airport, Kaduna; Yola Airport, Yola; Margaret Ekpo Airport, Calabar; Sultan Abubakar Airport, Sokoto; Birnin Kebbi Airport, Kebbi; Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos; and Benin Airport, Benin.
Federal, states, others review terms for schools reopening
Another step towards the reopening of schools will be taken today as Federal and state governments meet to review the level of compliance with the conditions.
The 52-page guidelines released by the Federal Ministry of Education is designed to navigate the path for the resumption of pupils in exit classes to enable them write their external examinations despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
A decision on the return to school by exit class pupils may likely be taken at the end of today’s meeting.
Osun grants tax reliefs to residents, employees
The Osun government has granted tax reliefs to business owners and individuals resident in the state.
Among those that enjoyed the reliefs are the micro, small and medium enterprises, artisans, market women and men, employees, small-medium enterprises and others.
Executive Director of Osun Internal Revenue Service, Adegbite Ademikanra, stated these to reporters over the weekend in Osogbo, the Osun capital.
