Nigeria discharges 13,447 patients and other #COVID-19 updates across Nigeria
The number of COVID-19 patients discharged in the country is now 13,447 following 344 new successfully treated cases.
This is according to the new data released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The NCDC had also recorded 571 new COVID-19 cases in 20 states, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 32,558.
Lagos doctors begin warning strike
Doctors, under the aegis of the Medical Guild in Lagos, have declared a three-day warning strike over issues affecting their safety and welfare.
The Chairman of the Guild, Oluwajimi Sodipo, said the strike, which would run from July 13 to 16, would exempt members working in the state’s COVID-19 isolation centres, “even though they have not been paid for two months”.
‘Infection curve growing slowly’
The NCDC Sunday, hinted that although the country has not experienced an exponential increase in the number of infected COVID-19 cases, the infection curve continues to grow slowly.
It encouraged everyone to take responsibility by adhering to the non-pharmaceutical preventive measures by wearing masks, social distancing, avoiding large gatherings and maintain hand hygiene.
PTF, governors forum endorse pandemic tracker
The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Governors Forum have endorsed the COVID-19 Incidence and Resource Tracker, Dashboard and Predictive Analytic Platform (Systems Platform) to assist the containment of the pandemic in Nigeria.
Its development was funded by the Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG) in partnership with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and the Federal Government.
Private school owners, parents disagree with minister over WAEC postponement
The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) and the National Parents-Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) have appealed to the federal government to reconsider its position on the senior school certificate examination (SSCE) being conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The government had last week said no Nigerian school would participate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) earlier scheduled to hold from August 5 to September 5.
