Ndume asks FG to slash workers’ salaries and other #COVID19 updates across Nigeria

NIgerian senator, Ali Ndume (Borno South), has asked the federal government to cut workers’ salaries.

Speaking on a Channels Television programme, the lawmaker said workers should not be paid full salaries since they have not resumed.

Ndume, however, urged the government to provide palliatives for the workers if they are expected to make such sacrifice.

Ekiti govt threatens return to total lockdown

The Ekiti government has threatened to return total lockdown in the state following non-adherence to the preventive guidelines stipulated to curb the spread of COVID-19.

It said it would have no option than to return to lockdown if the current lackadaisical attitude of not obeying inter-state ban, social and physical distancing, mandatory use of face-mask and hand sanitiser, as well as other protocols, persist.

Panic as NCDC takes samples of top Anambra govt officials

Panic gripped most top government officials of Anambra including officials of the State Response Team following National Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC) officers’ visit to take their samples.

The exercise may not be unconnected with the death of an aide to Governor Willie Obiano, who was feared to have died from COVID-19 while in isolation at a protective centre.

Nigeria records highest daily figure yet

Nigeria Tuesday, recorded a new highest daily figure of confirmed COVID-19 cases as 663 new infections were announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

With the latest update, the total tally of infected people in the country rose to 13, 464 from 12, 801 reported on Monday evening.

Previously, the highest daily number recorded was 553 on May 31.

51% of households reduced food consumption to cope with COVID-19 shocks

A COVID-19 impact survey conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that a large percentage of households reduced their food consumption to cope with the shocks of the pandemic.

The Nigeria COVID-19 National Longitudinal Phone Survey was carried out in collaboration with the survey unit of the World Bank.
