‘Why some patients go into hiding after testing positive’ and other #COVID19 updates across Nigeria
The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire has said that majority of patients who go into hiding after testing positive for COVID-19 are asymptomatic.
Ehanire, while speaking at the daily Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing Thursday, said about 80 per cent of those who have COVID-19 would have no symptoms.
He said it is quite tasking convincing asymptomatic patients of their positive results.
”Again, you also have the issue of people who test and they are positive but they have no symptoms. They think you are going to look for them, they run and go into hiding or they disappear,” he said.
Churches, mosques, hotels to open in Lagos June 19
The Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu Thursday, announced that religious institutions can reopen from June 19 under strict guidelines; in furtherance of he easing of the lockdown.
Also to commence business are hotels and the hospitality industry, the governor said.
Worship centres will, however, only be allowed to conduct services on Sundays for Christians and Fridays for Muslims.
Umahi shuts government activities as coronavirus cases hit 75
Ebonyi Governor, David Umahi has suspended all government activities for one week following the rising number of COVID-19 cases to 75 even, as some top government officials have been infected.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Uchenna Orji, disclosed that the cases rose to 75 after over 3, 000 samples were tested, noting that 26 cases have been discharged and 49 still receiving treatment were stable.
NCDC says negative result no longer required to discharge patients
The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, has highlighted that a negative laboratory test result of COVID-19 patients is no longer required for such patients to be discharged.
Ihekweazu made this known at the daily Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday.
He aid the new discharge criteria for COVID-19 Infection indicates that patients can be free 14 days after the first positive result.
FCT releases guidelines for reopening worship centres
The federal capital territory (FCT) has released guidelines for reopening of worship centres that have been shut to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Among others:
- Ensuring the supply of running water and soap/alcohol sanitisers at entry and exit points and in all high-contact locations including bathrooms.
- Worshippers must sanitise their hands before entry.
- Provision of temperature checks before entry.
- Mandatory use of face masks.
- Strongly discourage all close contact including shaking hands, hugging, kissing, handing out of materials and sharing of worship implements including prayer mats, musical organs, microphones etc.
- Churches and mosques within the FCT must limit the capacity of their facilities to allow for physical distancing of at least 2 meters between persons.
