Nigerian governors ask Reps to stay Infectious Diseases Bill

The 36 state governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) have criticised the controversial Control of Infectious Diseases Bill, sponsored by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The chairman of the forum, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, in a statement he signed Wednesday, said the bill lacks proper “consultation” of governors and should be “stepped down”

PTF condemns recycling, sharing of face masks

The picking of face masks from dumpsites by some Nigerians for the purpose of recycling would only worsen the spread of COVID-19 in the country, the chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, has said.

Mustapha while speaking at the daily PTF briefing on Tuesday said the team was aware of the ongoing practice of sharing masks.

Nigeria’s COVID-19 recoveries top 1,000

Nigeria’s COVID-19 recoveries have passed the 1,000 mark, and with only 3,737 active cases. 

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed six fresh deaths and 184 new COVID-19 cases in 21 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) on Wednesday night.

Kwara queries COVID-19 team, sacks driver who mishandled a case

The Kwara Government has ordered the sack of one of its drivers who unilaterally attended to an unkempt suspected coronavirus patient after being evacuated with a COVID-19 ambulance in Ilorin.

The state governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also directed the issuance of queries to top officials of the state ministry of health for failing to act with “necessary caution” and expertise in the handling of the incident that was recorded in a video footage that has since gone viral.
