US says it has spent $21.4 million on COVID-19 intervention in Nigeria
The United States government says it has spent about $21.4 million in assistance to Nigeria over the COVID-19 pandemic.
It said it gave the assistance through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Department of State.
The US Embassy in Abuja, which disclosed this on Thursday, said about four-fifths of the expenditure (about $18 million) were on humanitarian assistance.
Face masks, sanitisers compulsory
The use of face masks and hand sanitisers on market days are non-negotiable to limit the spread of the virus, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo, has said.
Mr Adebayo said these and other precautionary measures are to be observed as “market protocols” on approved market days before people are allowed access into the market for transactions.
We are not playing number games – NCDC
The director of general of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu says the country is not playing a game of numbers with tests for coronavirus.
Speaking at the media briefing of the presidential task force on COVID-19 in Abuja on Thursday, the NCDC DG said Nigeria had fared well in the fight against coronavirus.
A journalist had asked if it should not be a source of concern that African countries that recorded cases after Nigeria had tested far more people than Nigeria.

It has been learnt Thursday, that some people who tested positive to the coronavirus has refused to be taken to treatment centres.
The patients have opted to stay at home for treatment instead.
This breach of protocol of infectious diseases in Abuja, has forced the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Muhammad Bello to threaten invocation of relevant laws to enable him mandatorily evacuate recalcitrant patients to treatment centres.
Lagos asks people to desist from stigmatising health centres
The Lagos Government has urged the public to desist from stigmatising health facilities that might have been exposed to COVID-19 cases in the state.
Executive Secretary, State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), Dr Abiola Idowu made the plea in a statement on Thursday.
Idowu was reacting to a list of some health facilities being circulated on the social media as purportedly exposed to COVID-19 cases in the state.
